RRB NTPC Typing Test Preparation Guide - 30 WPM Target
RRB NTPC Typing Test Overview
The Railway Recruitment Board Non-Technical Popular Categories (RRB NTPC) examination includes a typing skill test for certain posts including Junior Clerk, Accounts Clerk, and Typist. The typing test requires candidates to achieve 30 words per minute in English typing with 80% accuracy. The test is conducted for 10 minutes on a computer provided by the examination center.
Understanding RRB NTPC Typing Requirements
Unlike SSC CHSL which requires 35 WPM, RRB NTPC has a slightly lower threshold of 30 WPM. However, candidates should not be complacent. The actual exam passages often contain railway-specific terminology, technical abbreviations, and administrative vocabulary that can slow down even experienced typists. Preparing with railway-related content is essential.
Railway Terminology for Practice
Common words in RRB NTPC typing tests include: locomotive, reservation, compartment, platform, schedule, maintenance, infrastructure, electrification, gauge, broad gauge, meter gauge, signaling, track, station master, train guard, and various station names across India. Practice typing these words repeatedly to build muscle memory.
Recommended Practice Schedule
Morning session (15 minutes): Warm up with easy passages focusing on accuracy. Afternoon session (20 minutes): Practice with railway-specific content at target speed. Evening session (15 minutes): Full 10-minute mock test under exam conditions. Total daily practice: 50 minutes.
Mock Test Strategy
Take at least 3 full mock tests per week in the final month before your exam. Use Simple Typing's Exam Mode with RRB NTPC-specific passages. Track your WPM and accuracy for each mock test. Aim for consistent 32-35 WPM in practice to create a safety margin above the 30 WPM requirement.
