Complete Typing Practice Help Guide

Welcome to Simple Typing's comprehensive help and support section. This guide covers everything you need to know about using our platform effectively for government exam typing preparation, including SSC CHSL, RRB NTPC, UPSSSC PET, CPCT, banking exams, and more.

Getting Started with Simple Typing

Simple Typing offers completely free typing practice tailored for Indian government exam aspirants. To begin, visit the Practice page or Exams page. Select your target exam, choose your language (Hindi or English), and start typing immediately. No registration is required for basic practice, but creating a free account unlocks progress tracking, leaderboard rankings, and chapter-wise exam simulation.

Understanding Practice Modes

We offer three powerful practice modes designed for different stages of your preparation:

  • Time Mode: Type for a fixed duration of 1, 2, or 5 minutes. This mode is best for building speed and simulating the time pressure of real government typing tests. Your WPM is calculated in real-time as you type.
  • Words Mode: Type a specific number of words (25, 50, 100, or 200) without any time limit. This mode helps you focus purely on accuracy and rhythm. Perfect for beginners who need to develop muscle memory before working on speed.
  • Exam Mode: Practice with real government exam passages organized chapter-wise. Complete each chapter to unlock the next. This mode tracks your progress, best WPM, and accuracy for each specific exam.

Keyboard Shortcuts and Navigation

Master these shortcuts to practice more efficiently:

  • Tab Key: Quickly restart the current test when you want to begin again
  • Escape Key: Exit full-screen mode during practice sessions
  • Settings Panel: Click the gear icon to change themes, accent colors, and font preferences instantly
  • Focus Input: Click anywhere on the text area or press any key to activate the typing input field

Hindi Typing Setup and Tips

Hindi typing is essential for state-level exams like UPSSSC PET, Bihar SSC, Rajasthan RSMSSB, MP Vyapam, and CPCT. Here is how to set up Hindi typing:

  • On Windows: Go to Settings > Time & Language > Language & Region. Add Hindi (India) and select the INSCRIPT keyboard layout.
  • On Mac: Go to System Preferences > Keyboard > Input Sources. Add Hindi and choose Devanagari - QWERTY.
  • On Mobile: Switch to your device's Hindi keyboard in the keyboard settings.

Our platform uses standard Unicode Devanagari (Mangal-style) which is the official format for most government Hindi typing tests. Practice regularly with Hindi passages to build familiarity with common government terminology.

Understanding WPM, Accuracy, and Scoring

Words Per Minute (WPM): Calculated based on correctly typed characters divided by 5 (standard word length), then normalized to one minute. For example, typing 350 correct characters in 1 minute equals 70 WPM.

Accuracy: The percentage of correct keystrokes out of total keystrokes. If you type 500 characters with 25 errors, your accuracy is 95%.

Government Exam Benchmarks: SSC CHSL requires 35 WPM (English), RRB NTPC requires 30 WPM (English), UPSSSC PET requires 25 WPM (Hindi), and CPCT requires 30 WPM in both languages. Most exams expect 80-90% accuracy.

How to Improve Your Typing Speed

Follow this proven daily routine to improve your typing speed systematically:

  • Week 1-2 (Foundation): Practice 20 minutes daily in Words Mode. Focus only on accuracy. Do not look at the keyboard. Keep fingers on the home row (ASDF JKL;).
  • Week 3-4 (Speed Building): Add 15 minutes of Time Mode practice. Push yourself to type faster while maintaining 85%+ accuracy.
  • Week 5+ (Exam Simulation): Use Exam Mode with passages from your target exam. Practice under timed conditions exactly like the real test.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

  • Slow Loading: Check your internet connection. Close unnecessary browser tabs. Clear browser cache if the problem persists.
  • Font Not Displaying Correctly: Use the settings panel to switch between font options. Ensure your browser supports Unicode fonts.
  • Login Issues: Clear browser cookies and cache. Ensure you are using the correct email and password. Use the Forgot Password option if needed.
  • Hindi Characters Not Appearing: Verify that your system keyboard is set to Hindi input mode before starting the test.
  • Scores Not Saving: You must be logged in for scores to save. Guest practice scores are stored only in your browser's local storage and may be lost if you clear browsing data.

Exam-Specific Preparation Tips

Each government exam has unique typing requirements. SSC CHSL focuses on English speed (35 WPM). RRB NTPC tests at 30 WPM with accuracy emphasis. UPSSSC and Bihar SSC require Hindi typing using Mangal font. Banking exams like IBPS and SBI test English typing at 30 WPM with high accuracy expectations. Use our Exam Mode to practice with passages specifically designed for your target examination.
